Not writing takes effort. It means that the efforts elsewhere are too exhausting, and not in the newborn sleep deprivation kind of way, but in the all-consuming, there isn’t even life left in me kind of way.

S started to get sick in January 2017, then sick again, then again, then a bit sick, then so sick we spent over twelve hours in emergency with him hooked up to an IV, then so sick he had to be administered puffers, then sick and sick and sick.
